I just saw a facebook thread on the topic of women’s fitness and how much is too much. Obviously, as far as beauty and aesthetics go, it is mostly a matter what is accepted in culture and personal likes and dislikes. However, from a professional point of view I believe every human organism should be adapted to meet daily work loads and be prepared for emergency and/or self-defense workloads. One of my favorite quotes goes,”strong is the new skinny.” Women should have capable bodies. Jiu-Jitsu training places stress on each person resulting in different types of adaptations. Men typically lean up while women typically lean up but also add muscle mass. Their is constant tugging, pulling and holding on the kimono lapels and sleeves. Isometric holds are known to be an effective means of hypertrophy (muscle growth) in humans. I’m very proud to say our women are very fit and and functional and a few of them are down right capable of inducing a lot of damage on any unwise person, man or woman.
